Altar Guild Handbook

Altar Guild

Throughout the church year, the Altar Guild is responsible for the care and preparation of the altars, linens, priests’ and servers’ vestments, brass, silver, candles and flowers. Currently we have about 33 active members, women and men, and 11 sustaining members. The Altar Guild operates with a team of two, three or four members who are on duty for a month at a time. Each month’s team prepares for the Sunday services (8:00 and 10:15), weekday services (Wednesday at 9:30 and Thursday at 5:30), special feast day services, and any weddings or funerals that occur during that month. Each team tries to work around its members work schedules or other commitments. We realize everyone leads busy lives, so we do try to be flexible. Also, new members work with experienced members to learn what to do and how to do it. We try to utilize everyone’s abilities and talents to accomplish the duties of the Altar Guild.

We meet collectively three times a year to conduct any business – at a dinner in June at an area restaurant, at a dinner in September at church (when we pay our $10 dues) and at a Saturday morning meeting in February to plan for our geranium sale, our only fund raiser. We have three Brass Days a year when we meet to polish the brass and silver. These days are held on a Saturday morning at church and last about an hour and a half.

Being on the Altar Guild is an important commitment, one that gives you the opportunity to be an integral part of the worship at Grace Church, not to mention the wonderful fellowship we share in getting to know each other and working together. Please consider becoming a member.  We would love to have you join us!
